Cooper Willyams (1762-1816) was educated at King’s Canterbury and Cambridge before taking up a career in the Church, which began with his appointment as curate to a Gloucestershire parish in 1784. His rise in the Church was steady, however, in November 1793 he joined the expedition to the West Indies under the command of Lieut.-General Sir Charles Grey and Vice-Admiral Sir John Jervis as Chaplain on board the \u003cem\u003eBoyne\u003c\/em\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe campaign was hindered by a severe outbreak of Yellow Fever, from which Willyams himself suffered, indeed he was the only chaplain to survive.
