Two leaves with list of members of the ‘Société des Amis des Livres’, half-title, two engraved frontispiece portraits by Lalauze of de Boufflers (as a young and old man), each in two states, title with engraved vignette and decorative border, envoi leaf with engraved pictorial frame, first leaf of text with engraved head-piece and four-line decorative initial, ten leaves of text with engraved vignettes, final leaf with engraved tail-piece, colophone verso, leaf with achevé d’imprimer; the engraving for the envoi leaf and the tail-piece, the engraving for the first leaf of text and the decorative initial all with delicate hand-colouring by Lynch and two original signed watercolours by Lynch on the verso of initial blank and the title Full tan crushed morocco by Pagnant with his signature gilt, front and rear boards with matching decorative tooling in gilt and excised sections to reveal emerald and scarlet silk moiré beneath, the whole forming a highly elaborate decorative scheme, spine with elaborate gilt tooling and title in gilt, turn-ins with inset sections of olive morocco and red corner-pieces with floriate tooling in gilt, silk floral patterned doublures, original moiré blue striped wrappers with gilt title preserved a.e.g., brown morocco slipcase with title gilt to spine. Germain Bapst, Membre Titulaire de la Société des Livres, his copy (see justification); with engraved bookplate of Samuel Putnam Avery to first blank leaf recto; blue morocco bookplate of Francis Kettaneh with gilt vignette to first blank leaf recto. Tipped in A.L.S. by H. d’Orléans, along with tipped in invoice from Pagnant dated 1889 made out to ‘Theodore Child for S. P. Avery’, with a detailed description of the binding and a price for the work of 550 Francs.

A beautiful copy with two original signed watercolours by Albert Lynch in a superb binding by Pagnant, bound for Samuel Putnam Avery.
