ALS (in Spanish) from the Jesuit agent in Mexico, Father Baltasar de Mansilla thanking the Duchess for her generous patronage of the Jesuits in the Mariana missions (her own “spiritual conquest”) and hoping it will continue. He forwards letters from the islands received by him in Mexico in January that year.

Father Kino at the Duchess’s request is being sent to California instead of China (the writer playfully calls her a “spiritual bandit” who has committed a “spiritual robbery” against the China mission. He is posting another Jesuit to China to make up for him there. Others mentioned in this letter are: Governor Antonio de Saravia: Governor Gabriel Cruzelaegui; Governor Juan de Vargas; Francisco Salgado SJ.
