LEWIS (Wyndham).
The Apes of God.

First edition, limited to 750 copies, signed by the author.

Lewis found himself, to his delight, in hot water after the publication of this savage satire of the English literary scene in the 1920s, even his patron Sidney Schiff not escaping his scorn. Lewis’s venom is particularly directed at the Sitwells, the last 250 pages devoted entirely to a fancy dress party ‘Lord Osmund’s Lenten party’, a thinly veiled reference to Osbert and his siblings.

A near fine copy. A little wear at the extremities of the jacket, especially to top and tail of spine, some foxing to the edges of the textblock and to initial and final leaves of text block.
