Fine.

“In 2019 I travelled to Burma/Myanmar as the country opened up to the outside world after decades of isolation and military dictatorship, and before the tragic events of 2021. Burma Bound is based on material gathered on this journey – from the cover paper derived from longyi fabric, endpapers from mosaics on Mandalay hill, to images drawn in my sketchbook as I sailed along the Irrawaddy.

The book is printed letterpress throughout using linocut, woodcut, wood engraving, polymer plate and movable type. Individual pages are printed using between one and five colours, some dusted with gilding powder or mica.

I am sincerely grateful to Simon Goode and Ira Yonemura of the London Centre for Book Arts, where Burma Bound was produced, and to all those who work at this unique open access facility for their support and generosity.” (Christina McCauley.)
