First edition. 8vo., quarter leather, lettered and tooled in gilt. paris, Eugene Renduel, 1832.
Inscribed by the author on the half-title to the critic Desire Nisard: “A mon ami Nisard, Ste Beuve.” The inscription may or may not be somewhat wary: the two may have been friends, but were on opposite sides of the classical/romantic debate that divided French letters in the early middle years of the nineteenth century. An excellent copy.
