First edition. Two parts bound in one volume. 4to. Sixty-seven plates, mostly with partial hand-colouring, seven of them folding. Slightly later calf-backed black pebble-grained boards, somewhat rubbed, upper joint a little split towards the tail. Plates variably browned, some foxing, a little light damp-staining to the margins, but overall a very good copy. [iv] 170, corrigenda leaf; 152pp. Copenhagen, Forfatterens Forlag, 1846.

Scarce, OCLC locates only three copies at Yale, University of Illinois and the Mariner’s Museum Library, similarly only three copies of this original edition on KVK.

Splendidly illustrated Marine Dictionary, highly detailed plates of ship construction, rigging, ship’s equipment &c. The author, the famous Danish shipbuilder Diderik Hansteen Funch (1791-1856), was one of the most important warship designers of his time.
