Original beige cloth, gilt lettering to spine, brown lettering to front board; slight lean to text block, light wear to extremities, small tear to top of front joint, a few small stains to covers, otherwise good. Gertrude Bell’s first major work, describing a period of travel in Palestine, Jordan and Syria. Starting in 1905, her wanderings took her through Jerusalem, Jericho, Amman, Damascus, Homs, Hama and ancient Aleppo and Antioch, before reaching a terminus at Alexandretta. The first edition is quite uncommon.
