Haldane. This posthumously published work is, in essence, an attempt to apply the laws of dialects to nature and the spheres of science in general.

While relying on outdated understandings of physics, Engels’ application of the role of labour to the evolution of mankind is here a valuable contribution in unifying Marxist theories with Darwinist conceptions of evolutionary science. Written across the last twenty years of his life, the notes are organised chronologically, but they are not necessarily cohesive. Consequently, the present edition demonstrates the development of Engels’ scientific ideas over time. For example, in the early chapters, Engels adopts a Lamarckian framework and later assumes Darwin’s theory of natural selection. In so doing, Haldane presents a pleasing progression in the ideas of one of the great intellectual forces of the 19th century.

Spotting to outer pages and for-edge otherwise insides clean, dust jacket unevenly toned and somewhat marked, worn to extremities including loss to head and tail of spine.
