An energetic publication by the original punk poet John Cooper Clark, published by Omnibus Press. Throughout are collages of photography, illustration and text designed in the Dadaist style. Cover artwork by graphic artist Barney Bubbles, whose other work includes the logo design for NME and the album artwork for the Ian Drury and the Blockheads single, Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick (1978). Included among the poems are lyrics from Cooper Clarke’s 1978 album Disguise in Love.
Cooper Clarke’s poetry fuses the absurd and abnormal into the everyday, making sharp observations of the world around him. The above quotation is from the poem (I Married a) Monster from Outer Space, which draws upon themes of being an outsider. In Cooper Clarke’s characteristically satirical manner, he writes, ‘We walked out – tentacle in hand / You could sense that the earthlings would not understand’.
A near fine copy, only faint toning to covers.
