The Downfall of Lobengula:
Ostensibly an account of the Matabele War, the work is better described as a history of the region between the reigns of Moselekatse and Lobengula. Many of the contributors were themselves either explorers or settlers, eg Rider Haggard, Forbes, Willoughby, Selous and Wrey. “There is a description of the occupation of Bulawayo, the flight of the king with the remnant of his army, an account of the loss of the Wilson Patrol, and other interesting matter connected with the annexation and settlement of Matabeleland” (Mendelssohn). Mendelssohn II, p617.
