He was a founding member of the Cuban Academy of History and served as the official historian of the province of Havana from 1928 to 1943.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAn avid archivist, Beato’s interest in Cuban history was sparked from the moment of his arrival and \u003cem\u003eEl Curioso Americano\u003c\/em\u003e is the fruit of his research.
