The first edition came out under the title: “Narrative of a voyage of Observation…“About three quarters of the work refers to the Kafir campain with the remainder dedicated to the West Coast of Africa.. This copy belonged to the Eighth Duke of Roxburghe and bears his crests and ducal coronet in gilt on the upper cover of both volumes.
