Both the present impression and the example in the British Museum have “N^o^” (132) struck-through.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eA fine portrait of the classical princess who helped Theseus escape the Minotaur and was later abandoned by him on the island of Naxos produced by Bartolozzi as part of a circle of Italian engravers and print sellers in London at the end of the 18th-century.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFrancesco Bartolozzi (1728-1815) was born in Florence but emigrated to London in 1764 where he was a founder member of the Royal Academy. He bought a large house at Fulham in 1780 where he taught and produced engravings; he later moved to Lisbon where he died in financial distress.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBartolozzi produced over 2000 engravings principally because he employed a large number of engravers many of which came from Italy and lived with him at his house in Fulham.
