Good, professionally and sympathetically rebacked with replacement spine in matching blue cloth, corners refurbished, foxed throughout (an endemic condition where this edition is concerned) increasing with severity towards extremities and primarily to page edges, the diagrams themselves remain bright and vibrant. Overall a presentably copy which retains the attractive original blue cloth, which perfectly sets the mood for the colourful diagrams within.

Ruari McLean, in Victorian Book Design describes this as “one of the oddest and most beautiful books of the whole century … [each] page is a unique riot of red, yellow and blue: on some pages letters and numbers only are printed in colour, sprinkled over the page like tiny wild flowers, demanding the most meticulous register: elsewhere, solid squares, triangles and circles are printed in gaudy and theatrical colours, attaining a verve not seen again on book pages till the days of Dufy, Matisse and Derain.”
