The Duke’s fall at a review in Hyde Park. Plucking at the knee of his breeches Wellington surveys the damage that his tumble into a cow-pat has done and curses to himself, “Very ominous! very ominous! - d-d accident! d-d mess - what a pickle! d-n the cows! what are they all shouting at - must hold the reins tighter in future.” A veiled reference to the Duke’s precarious position in the wake of Catholic Emancipation.
