Saveli Maximovich Perlmann (1847-1922) spent some years in China as a fur trader before moving to London in the early 20th century. The present uncommon title includes a brief summary of Chinese history as well as chapters on philosophy, the examination system, and aspects of religion. It also includes a section about the old Jewish community in Kaifeng. This book was printed in Hebrew by a small publisher in London.
