The first book published on Fijian Hindi. This is a comprehensive overview providing instruction on grammar, lengthy vocabulary lists, as well as additional information on Indian religions and customs. The first recorded Indian on Fiji was noted by Peter Dillon in 1813. But it wasn’t until 1879 that a contract was formally established for the import of labour, with more following in 1881. Although the labour system was abolished in about 191, many opted to remain and they now represent a sizeable minority group with their own distinct identity.
The compiler was the Inspector of Indian Schools in Fiji.
