In near-fine condition (spine a little faded, very slight wear at the head of the spine, which is slightly cocked. An unrelated signature and bookplate on the front endpapers). This is an incribed presentation copy signed by Maugham: on the front free endpaper he has written “For Karl Pfeiffer / The author’s third produced / Play. 1908.”, and on the title page he has crossed out his printed name and signed beneath. Pfeiffer, a friend of Maugham, wrote and published an informal biography of Maugham. In a stout, functional leatherbound case.
