Maundrell, was the Levant Company’s chaplain at Aleppo from 1696, until his death from fever in 1701. Some two years later the first edtion of his narrative was published, which included the first description of Balbec by an Englishman, as well as plates of both Aleppo and Jerusalem.cf.
