The book references the Chinese classic \u003cem\u003eShiji\u003c\/em\u003e, known in English as the \u003cem\u003eRecords of the Grand Historian\u003c\/em\u003e, written by Sima Qian in the 1st–2nd century BC. The present book is a collection of Sekino’s illustrations for Muramatsu’s novel.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWithin the edition of 95, some copies were printed as rubbings from the original woodblock while others were printed normally from the same blocks, with hand colouring applied after. It is not entirely clear how many in the edition were done with each method.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRare.
