The scarce first printing of Sartre’s greatest philosophical work and the foundational text of French existentialism, with the colophon stating printing on 28th of June 1943 (“Le vingt-cinq juin mil neuf cent quarante-trois”) and the printed dedication to Simone de Beauvoir “au CASTOR”.

Provenance: a review ‘service de presse’ copy from the library of the French poet and essayist Claude Roy (1915-1997), with his pencilled ownership inscription to the front free endpaper and a few pencilled annotation to the rear free endpaper.
