CONRAD (Joseph).

Lord Jim. A Tale.

FIRST EDITION

First edition in book form, first issue. 8vo. Original pale green flecked cloth, spine lettered in gilt with black floral motif, front cover blocked in black, top and fore edges untrimmed. Edinburgh and London, William Blackwood and Sons, 1900.

£1,500.00

Lord Jim was originally appeared serialised in “Blackwood’s Magazine” from October 1899 to November 1900 and Conrad did extensive rewriting for this first edition. The correct first issue with the relevant misprints to pp. 77, 226, 319.

Just about a very good copy overall, pencilled notation to front free endpaper in an early hand, small amount of faint foxing to outer leaves, slight browning to contents but otherwise generally unmarked, cloth rather worn at extremities, spine darkened, slight lean to text block, superficial hairline crack to front hinge but holding firmly.
