HAWTHORNE (Nathaniel).
The Marble Faun: or the Romance of Monte Beni.
A slightly compromised copy that yet maintains some dignity. The heads of both spines and the foot of one are restored and the joints are repaired. The whole has that slightly indefinable feel of having been soften by handling, including bruising to the corners, though the text block is actually clean and square. With an interesting Italian provenance, bearing the blindstamp ex-libris of the heiress Giannalisa Feltrinelli, mother of Giangiacomo, the publisher of Doctor Zhivago and The Leopard, and the ultimate champagne socialist, who died while planning a terrorist attack.
