Broadbent left the Cape in 1821, heading to mostly unknown territory. He eventually settled in Maquassi, where Siffonello (Chief of the Baralongs) resided. Despite constant warfare, the Mission managed to remain on good terms with the Bechuanas, not least because of Broadbent’s efforts to master the local language. Mendelssohn I, p192.
