Discovered by Lieu.t Broughton 1795, and Colonized by the New Zealand Company May 1841.’ Due south of South Africa are marked the discoveries of ‘Captn. D’Urville 1840’ on the coast of Antarctica, and south of New Zealand the comment ’Capt. Ross and Crozier discovered Land on the 10th Jany. 1840 in Lat. 71o 56“ Long. E. 171o 17“ and took possession on the 12th in the name of Her Majesty.
