MARX (Karl). & HOBSBAWM (Eric)., Edited with an Introduction.
Pre-Capitalist Economic Formations.

The first English translation of Marx’s Pre-Capitalist Economic Formations, originally part of a huge manuscript written by Marx while researching what would eventually become A Contribution to the Critique of Political Economy in 1859.

The full manuscript would finally be published in Russian in Moscow, 1939-41 and then German in 1953 as the Grundrisse der Kritik der Politischen Ökonomie — most commonly referred to as the Grundrisse. The present text, Pre-Capitalist Economic Formations, forms pages 471–514 of the Grundrisse and was first published separately in Berlin, 1952, as a pamphlet called Formen die der Kapitalistischen Produktion vorhergehen.

The present English translation was edited by the British Marxist historian Eric Hobsbawm and the text is appended by a series of relevant extracts from across the works of Marx and Engels on the problem of historical periodisation.
