[BOND (Edward). & TAWNEY (R.H.)
Religion and the Rise of Capitalism. A Historical Study.

With slight wear to the wrappers but a very sound copy.

The copy of playwright Edward Bond, with his beautiful and carefully calligraphed ownership inscription “E Bond, Chelsea, July 1952”, illustrated with small rural devices, below a very well executed sketch of a crucifix wreathed in smoke from a saw-toothed factory producing bags of money.

An evocative (and rare) illustration of the intensity of Bond’s autodidactic reading and his political commitment. His eighteenth birthday was in July 1952, three years after leaving school, and two years before his National Service began.
