£70.00

Inscribed by Richard Tauber, on the front free endpaper ‘zum freundlicher (?) Wien’. Below his signature is the date ‘1934’ written with his characteristic backwards-facing 9. Tauber was a world-famous tenor considered to be one of the greatest singers of the twentieth century. Originally from Austria he fled in 1933, eventually to London, after suffering harrassment as a result of his Jewish heritage. He remained in England throughought the war and continued to record music and radio broadcasts until his death in 1948, being perhaps most associated with the song ‘Yours Is My Heart Alone’ written for him by Franz Lehar, originally for the 1929 operetta ‘Land of Smiles’. An excellent copy, gilt lettering on upper cover rubbed and edges of boards slightly faded.
