Amongst other items of social news is the announcement of the engagement of the Duke of Anjou, brother of the King of France, to the (rich) daughter of the Duke of Montpensier. From Vienna came rumours of war, as troops were being mustered in large numbers in lower Hungary. London reported that eight war ships were ready, supported by 22 Dutch ships. From Constantinople, news was received that the Turks were engaging in various war efforts as well.
