One of the supreme historical achievements of the 20th century, commonly cited as a major factor in Churchill being awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1953. As Max Beloff observed, there was no statesman of the twentieth century ‘whose retrospective accounts of the great events in which he has taken part have so dominated subsequent historical thinking’.
A good set, completely clean interior if slightly toned, fore-edges variably spotted worsening towards earlier volumes, dust jackets with heavy wear at head and tail of spine with typical fading red lettering, Volume III with minor black ink mark to head of front panel. Vol. 1 with the ‘Author’s Note’ tipped-in to p. ix and the ‘Errata and Corrigenda’ tipped-in at p. 610.
