Ueda Akinari’s (1734-1809) most famous and popular book on Sencha. Akinari was a great expert and aficionado of the Chinese style tea ceremony and the present text goes into some detail on how to select the right tea and the best water. It also includes some woodcuts of teapots, cups, and braziers.

Ueda initially trained to become a physician but his interests were wide-ranging: He was a kokugaku scholar, practised haikai, was interested in herbal remedies and later became a close friend of the scholar and artist Kimura Kenkado (1736-1802) who had himself studied sencha under Baisao. Very rare. Not in OCLC.
