A collection of the first three issues of the special edition of “Truth” magazine. Sawa Keitaro (1910- still alive) initially trained as a newspaper reporter. He became the editor of the left-leaning “Labour Magazine” and was arrested for violating the ‘Peace Preservation Law’ in 1937. After the end of the war he became co-founder and editor of the Communist “Truth” magazine which was first published in March 1946. Special issues were issued at irregular intervals relating to a single subject:
The first issues gives biographies of 100 people involved in the Japanese Labour movement.
During the early phase of American occupation it became possible to say just about anything (except for reporting about the A-bomb): The second Special Issue is an outspoken accusation of the Emperor’s role in the 2nd World War. It includes short essays like: Foreigner’s views of Hirohito. Record of not paying homage to the Emperor (Matsumoto Koichiro). The Emperor is like typhoid bacteria (Masaki Hiroshi).
The third issue charts the progress of ten communists leaders and activists: Mao Zedong, Georgi Dimitrov, Morris Thorez, Markos Vafeiadis, Palmiro Togliatti, Klement Gottwalt, Kim Il Sung, Henry Wallace, Ana Pauker and Josip Broz Tito.
