First edition. Lithograph frontispiece, 32 lithograph plates. Text in English and Chinese. Tall 8vo. Chinese-style binding with original printed wrappers and title-slip, a fine copy housed in original orange cloth folding case (some wear), small print relating to the White Lotus Society on back board, overall a very good copy. The illustrations are based on a series of paintings illustrating the life of Confucius (title: Shengji tu [Illustrations of holy Traces]) that Wang Zhenpeng (aka Guyun) painted during the Yuan dynasty. These were enlarged to 103 scenes for a woodblock printed version of this title during the Ming dynasty (1591) of which this is a reduced version.
