When the British Government sent a Commission to Bogota, the Capital of the newly Constituted State of Columbia, Colonel Hamilton was made first Commissioner. He travelled the country during the year 1823-25 and gives a most interesting first-hand account of the people and places and also records the prevalent political turmoil during his tour of duty.
