These images were published as part of \u003cem\u003eSketches of the Campaign in India\u003c\/em\u003e (1861) and \u003cem\u003eChinese War: Sketches of the Allied Expedition to Pekin\u003c\/em\u003e (1862).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eConsidered to be the first photographer to specialise in war, Beato, a naturalised British subject originally from Venice, met Crealock whilst they both were serving in Crimea. Crealock was an accomplished artist who was present at the Siege of Sevastopol, and made extensive sketches of the scenes he witnessed during the Indian Mutiny and the China campaign. Beato’s innovative use of photography to reproduce Crealock’s detailed battle scenes represents an interesting technological collaboration between two war artists working in different mediums.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Rapti (here “Raptee”) River scene shows a particularly vicious skirmish towards the end of the Indian Rebellion in December 1858, with the soldiers of the 7th Hussars pursuing the rebels into the water and mercilessly cutting them down.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e“The Cavalry Charge at Sinho” shows a scene on 12th August 1860 when Captain Walter Fane led a charge of Indian soldiers in his 19th Bengal Lancers (Fane’s Horse), against the Tartar adversaries during the Second Opium War.\u003c\/p\u003e\n","brand":"Maggs Bros.","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":48800997933213,"sku":"263983","price":300.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0669\/0045\/9677\/files\/263983_01.jpg?v=1786766443","url":"https:\/\/store.maggs.com\/products\/two-photographic-prints-drawings-depicting-panoramic-scenes-from-8pbu6pun","provider":"Maggs Bros.","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
