A primary source for the period. Jackson was for a number of years British Resident at Mogodor (present-day Essouaira), and this and the adjacent coastlands are described in some detail. It is also significant for the information the author was able to obtain about Timbuktu, at this time still unvisited by Europeans. Shabeeny was a native of Tetuan he went to Timbuctoo aged fourteen. and spent a total of ten years living there.
