[EVANS (E.R.G.R.)] MOUNTEVANS (Admiral Lord).
Adventurous Life.
Inscribed in ink on the front free endpaper: “To Harry with best Xmas Wishes from his friend & fellow author Teddy. 1946”.
The autobiography of Admiral Evans, known by then as “Evans of the Broke”, written after World War Two. “Evans served as second officer aboard the relief ship Morning (1902-4) during Scott’s Discovery expedition. His narrative of the ship’s two voyages (pp. 41-74) which contains extracts from his diary, is an important compliment to Doorly’s The Voyages of the ’Morning’. Evans mentions Scott’s 1910-13 expedition only in passing (pp.80-82), not surprisingly since that expedition was the subject of South with Scott” (Rosove).
