The cheerfully incompetent dust jacket shows the African Queen in the river. Inscribed by the author on the title page “Hilda Vaughan from C.S. Forester”. Hilda, herself a writer, was also married to Charles Morgan, one of the stars of the literary world of the mid 20th Century: she was evacuated, with their son, to California, where she befriended Forester.
