Account of a fruitless nine-month search for gold. The Natal Mercury published a letter by Carl Mauch claiming that two large goldfields had been discovered, and the author was one of the people to pursue the claim, prospecting in the Umtawalumi River, TheTugela and later Zululand and Matabeleland.
