SAUNDERS (William) and others.
An album of 24 photographs of Shanghai and Peking.
This album opens with a photo of the second incarnation of the Shanghai Customs House which was built in a Neo-Gothic style at the behest of Sir Robert Hart (Inspector-General of the Chinese Imperial Customs Service, 1835-1911), with a five-story rectangular clock tower in the centre, and two three-story wings on either side. This is followed by the 8-part panorama of the Shanghai Bund as well as a number of street scenes in Shanghai, Canton, the Great Wall and Peking. Also includes portraits of Chinese ladies, opium smokers, and two convicts wearing the cangue.
Includes work by William Saunders, Thomas Child, & John Thomson.
