A most attractive presentation box, containing some dozen items of no great distinction inscribed to the anonymous but probably young female owner of the box, all in forming a pleasant whole. Contents include a good quality pen and wash drawing (110 x 200 mm) of a group of cavalry and infantry lunching in the field; a crude pencil drawing of a tower; a transcription of a published verse on the pansy (“pensée”) flower; a decent pencil sketch of a thatched cottage in a mountainous region; 2 reasonably competent drawings of young women; a watercolour posy; a cheerfully incompetent pencil portraits of a dippy looking angel and a handsome cow; a pencil sketch of a military encampment; several sentiments of devotion, written in Dutch or French.
