Inscribed by Evelyn Waugh, dated “Christmas 1945”: to “Roughie” [W. M. Roughead, partner at the firm of Waugh’s literary agent A. D. Peters], “with best wishes from an old-fashioned writer, Evelyn.”
The Amulet was a popular literary annual edited by S. C. Hall between 1826 and 1837. This, the penultimate edition, features five poems by “L. E. L.”, Leticia Elizabeth Landon, poet and writer who died two years after this publication at the age of 36.
Contemporary ownership inscription of “Mary Rumfitt. 1836” to title-page. A very good copy, extremities a little worn and rubbed, especially to spine. Light spotting to plates.
