A VAST COMPENDIUM OF INTELLIGENCE ON THE GULF
THOMAS (Robert Hughes).
Arabian Gulf Intelligence. Selections from the Records of the Bombay Government. New Series, No. XXIV, 1856, concerning Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Muscat and Oman, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and the Islands of the Gulf.
A modern reprint of the most important work concerning the Arabian Gulf in the Nineteenth Century. The book was first published in 1856 as part of the Selections from the Records of the Bombay Government. Composed of several reports, it contains rare information on the United Arab Emirates.
It is a vast compendium, collecting political, geographical, hydrographical and historical material from official Indian Government sources, written by many of the key Political Officers of the time, and in the case of the hydrographical section, by the unsung Captain Charles Brucks whose seminal chart of the Gulf is included.
