An important record of women’s experiences in the Holocaust, the publication of Luckacs’ portfolio of images coincided with the first anniversary of the liberation of the Budapest Ghetto. It includes forewords by both the artist and the publisher.
Ágnes Lukács Rajzai (b. 1920) was a Hungarian painter and Holocaust survivor. Lukács was deported to Auschwitz in July 1944 and she was liberated by the US Army in April 1945 in Salzwedel, the female sub-camp of the Neuengamme concentration camp. She went back to Hungary in late 1945 and commenced work on this record of her time there.
