A collection bringing to the German philosopher Friedrich Heinrich Jacobi’s (1743-1819) correspondence with Fichte, Goethe, Humboldt, Jean Paul, Lavater, Lessing, Lichtenberg, Schiller, and Wieland, amongst others, many of which pertain to the so-called controversy pantheism controversy (‘Pantheismusstreit’) that gripped German philosophy during the 1780s.
