CHEVALIER (Albert).
Before I Forget, being the Autobiography of A. Chevalier d'Industrie.
Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, ‘With best wishes from Albert Chevalier’. A very good copy, rubbed at the extremities, endpapers browned. In the 1890s, dressed as a costermonger and singing his own cockney songs, Chevalier was a hugely successful music hall artist, whose work was admired by George Bernard Shaw and Arthur Symons. He was most famous for his song ‘My Old Dutch’, for which he wrote the lyrics to music by his brother Auguste.
