Unusually for such a book, each of the etchings is signed in pencil by the artist, which can only have accelerated its breaking into individual plates. The book is something of a literary and historical tour, including many illustrations of houses associated with cultural celebrities, including Turner, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, George Eliot, Thomas Carlyle, Holman Hunt & Leigh Hunt and James McNeil Whistler,
