Gurney’s famous work on short-hand of the same title was first published in 1750 and went through numerous, illustrated editions. The present meticulouslessly written manuscript comprises an address to the reader, the alphabet and related symbolds, shorthand for parts of speech and syllable formations, shortenting rules, persons and moods, negatives, specimen versions of passage from scripture, other remarks, and punctuation.
