A fine copy inscribed on the title page “To David and Jane with love - William”. Shawcross was an old friend, and the friendship survived the bifurcation of their politics: as Cornwell moved left, so Shawcross moved right from Anti-Vietnam campaigner to apologist for the invasion of Iraq.
